Yoast SEO Premium Plugin Setup Guide for All Websites 2023

Among the SEO plugins for WordPress, Yoast SEO has to be mentioned, which is used by more than 5 million websites so far. However, the plugin's support for Chinese is not particularly perfect, and some data will be wrong in the background of the Chinese website. This article will introduce the setup guide for the Yoast SEO Premium plugin to adapt to Chinese websites

The founder of Yoast SEO, Joost de Valk, is Dutch.

Difference between Yoast SEO Premium and Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO Premium is the premium version of Yoast SEO, with all the features of the latter plus the following extra features:

  • Early access to new features and tools
  • Optimize your website with the right keywords
  • Avoid dead links in your website
  • Get a preview shared on Twitter and Facebook
  • Content quality and link suggestions at the time of writing
  • Crawl Settings (Bate)
  • Additional functional components: Local SEO, Video SEO, News SEO, WooCommerce SEO

Features that are recommended to be turned off

Due to the recognition of Chinese characters, all functions related to words and word count statistics are recommended to be closed! Otherwise it will mislead you.

General settings

On the Features page of General Settings, it is recommended to turn off the SEO Analysis and Insights functions. As shown below:

The SEO analysis will take the input keywords as the core for analysis. The problem is that if the keywords are Chinese characters, the analysis conclusion of the plugin is unreliable.

For example, calculating the word count and frequency of the focus keywords in the article, and whether the URL contains keywords, etc., are not friendly to Chinese. If you turn on SEO analysis, no matter how you follow the prompts, it may be a red warning.

The Insights function consists of 4 parts, namely:

  • Prominent Word Check (Yoast SEO Premium)
  • Flesch Reading Ease Scoring
  • Estimated reading time
  • Count

Yes, these aspects are invalid for Chinese.

integrated

In the "Integration" option, it is recommended to turn off "Semrush" and "Wincher".

They are all auxiliary analysis keywords, and the analysis is based on Google's inclusion and ranking. This is not valid for Chinese websites.

Crawl settings

This is a new feature, which is still in the Beta (testing) stage. This feature is very adaptable, especially for domestic websites.

Basic crawl settings.

It is recommended to set all to be eliminated here.

WordPress adds a lot of URLs and some tags to the headers <head>of web pages, which are useless for SEO and viewers, and bloat HTML instead. The specific content options are as follows:

short link

In <head>the section of a single post, WordPress creates an shortlinkoutput (see example below).

<link rel='shortlink' href='http://testsite.com/?p=1' />

A short link is basically a shortened version of the same page URL, if the website has pseudo-static turned on,

REST API link

The REST API is a developer-oriented feature that allows applications to interact with WordPress sites.

<link rel="https://api.w.org/" href="http://testsite.com/wp-json/" />

If the website is not using the WordPress REST API, the link can be removed.

RSD/WLW link

The RSD (Really Simple Discovery) link in the site is also irrelevant, and most sites will not use it.

<link rel="EditURI" type="application/rsd+xml" title="RSD" href="http://testsite.com/xmlrpc.php?rsd" />

The WLW link is for discontinued Windows Live Writer users.

<link rel="wlwmanifest" type="application/wlwmanifest+xml" href="http://testsite.com/wp-includes/wlwmanifest.xml" />

oEmbed link

oEmbed links can be removed from all individual post sections.

<link rel="alternate" type="application/json+oembed" href="https://testsite.com/wp-json/oembed/1.0/embed?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftestsite.com%2F2022%2F05%2Fhello-world%2F" /><link rel="alternate" type="text/xml+oembed" href="http://testsite.com/wp-json/oembed/1.0/embed?url=http%3A%2F%2Ftestsite.com%2F2022%2F05%2Fhello-world%2F&format=xml" />

These links help other websites use your content. Deleting them will not harm anything on the site.

generator tag

The Builder tab shows the version of WordPress the site is using.

<meta name="generator" content="WordPress 6.0" />

This tag has no SEO value, in fact, it can be a security threat.

Emoji script

If you don't use emoji in your content, you probably don't need the emoji support that WordPress adds to your site

So it is possible to delete <link rel='dns-prefetch' href='//s.w.org' />lines and a long script related to emoji.

Pingback HTTP header

Pingbacks are used to notify you when someone adds a link to a website. However, this standard is very old. Can be removed X-Pingback: https://testsite.com/xmlrpc.phpfrom response headers.

Powered by HTTP headers

Information about the version of PHP the site is using can be removed from the response headers.

Feed crawl settings

WordPress automatically creates a large number of content feeds (Feeds) for websites, which may be a problem for search crawlers. These URLs will consume crawling time and volume, causing URLs that really need to be crawled to be ignored. Feeds will not be included.

https://testsite.com/feed/Therefore, it is recommended to close them all, so that URLs like this no longer appear on the website .

Search cleanup settings

Some spammers sometimes target internal search URLs on WordPress sites for their own purposes. These URLs may be crawled by search engines and may be seen by users.

With this feature turned on, Yoast SEO will automatically clean up TALK: QQ: [:()【】[]]such URLs.

Permalink cleanup settings

This function is only recommended for users who have a certain understanding of WordPress. If you are a novice, it is recommended to keep the default settings, otherwise it will cause losses caused by improper SEO.

This function is designed for URLs with parameters. Suppose a page URL: https://testsite.com/abc, it is possible to generate URLs like this: https://testsite.com/abc?source=emailor some other parameters, and these different URL addresses actually point to the same web page.

This makes the URL of the web page lose its uniqueness, which will have a greater impact on search rankings.

However, if you blindly clear all the parameters without setting the "Allow reserved parameters" correctly, some URLs that require parameters will not be crawled correctly.
